Over 35 years ago, our youngest child, Ryan, came into the world. For the first three or four years he appeared to be a developing normally, with no issues or concerns. However, a standard test administered as Ryan entered preschool highlighted a number of developmental deficits. Further testing revealed significant cognitive and intellectual deficits that would eventually impact Ryan’s ability to learn, make decisions, find and hold a job, and live independently.

With the help of an amazing network of family, friends, teachers, and youth leaders Ryan graduated from high school, earned a black belt in Kempo karate, earned the rank of Eagle scout, is gainfully employed, and living as independently as possible. He is our angel in every sense of the word, and his life has truly been an inspiration to all of those who know him.

My wife and I have experienced first-hand the challenge and blessing of supporting a special needs child into adulthood, and are excited to support United Angels in this important fund raising event. Supporting special needs individuals and families does take a community, and we hope you will join us!
